Reids rout the seconds

Bristol West Indies 309-7 Midsomer Norton 2nd XI 218-7
Midsomer Norton’s 2nds were blitzed on Saturday by a pair of talented footballing brothers who were playing one of their occasional matches for the Windies.
The home side used a fast outfield to put on 52 runs in the opening seven overs before Jason Maule broke the opening partnership.
However, that only brought the Reid brothers – Jake of Bath City FC and Reuben of West Bromwich Albion – together and they put on a stand of more than 200.
Both eventually fell to Maule for 141 and 123 but the damage had been done and a mammoth 309-7 included, amazingly, no extras.
A good start was needed to enable Norton to make a contest of it but they lost Maule in the second over and two more wickets fell in the 14th over with the score on 50.
Skipper Chris Tabb, coming in first wicket down, anchored the innings to the end with a fine unbeaten century, including 17 fours and a six, but the rest of the middle order failed with only number eight Ian Francis able to make a substantial contribution, his 52 including seven boundaries.
Defeat by almost 100 runs was a bitter pill to swallow, particularly as the opposing centurions may not play for their side again this season.
Norton take on Bedminster at Withies Lane, Bristol on Saturday, start 1.45pm.
