BOB Davis, pictured, who made headlines last week for his bowling exploits with son Dale, hit form with the bat as Bedminster 4ths recorded a tremendous one-wicket win against Chipping Sodbury.
An unlikely 74 runs were needed off nine overs when Bob, batting at number 10, was joined at the wicket by fellow 50-year-old Nick Pearson.
But the last-wicket pair got to work, bringing down the target to 40 runs off three, 30 off two and then 16 off the final over.
And Bob won the match off the final ball, hitting a full toss for four over cover to finish unbeaten on 59 with Nick, batting with a runner, on 21.
Bob said: “I thought we were dead and buried before grandad’s army came to the rescue!”
Bob (3-8) and Dale (7-21) had combined the week before to bowl out Stothert & Pitt and clinch a 116-run win for their side in the Bristol & District A XI League.
