A great community shop, the owners take time and trouble with both their produce and their customers. They sell a wide range of fresh vegetables and fruit, plus deli meats, cheeses, and Herbert's bread. If you're stopping off of St John's Lane to pick up something for tea at Tesco on the way home, I'd recommend you pop over the road to the Banana Boat first to see what they've got!

The owners of the Banana Boat are Italian although you woudn't think it to hear them talk, but they take a very Italian pride in the produce they sell and the quality of it is noticeably better than you get in supermarkets, really tasty. They also sell storecupboard stock like pasta and tinned tomatoes and they've started selling organic bread. Their olives are great, sold dressed with chilli, garlic and herbs, and made up in the shop.
The Banana Boat in Oxford Street, Totterdown is a great independent retailer of fruit and vegetables. Their produce is very fresh and very reasonably priced in comparison to high street chains. The staff are friendly and have an obvious passion for their stock. A great place to stock up your larder.
