The governors of Ashton Gate Primary School have asked people to complete a survey on the proposed expansion of the school as part of its efforts to help ease the shortage of primary schools places in Bedminster and BS3.

The Local Authority is investigating the possibility of purchasing two parcels of land from nearby St Francis Church in order to create additional space at the school.

The school would create a self-contained, secure site, including outdoor play space, with high quality modular accommodation providing classrooms, support rooms and toilets for two Year 6 classes.

This arrangement would free up space at the main site for three Reception classes and last for two years while a permanent facility is built.

Any plans for further, permanent expansion would be based on detailed proposals from the Local Authority in the coming months and further consultation.

In the meantime, governors at the school have until Wednesday 30 November to decide whether to accept an additional Reception class for the 2012 school year.

They have asked that local people please complete the survey by Monday 28 September 2011.

Two possible options were put forward at an open meeting this week. You can view the plans for Option A here and Option B here.

Well done Ashton Gate for showing such community spirit. Perhaps the council should think about turning more of South St school back to classrooms as well.
