The Lord Mayor of Bristol Colin Smith helped to put the finishing touches to the revamped East Street today as a hornbeam tree was planted at the junction with Warden Road. Trees have been planted along the popular shopping street.

Tree planting in East Street Bedminster
It marks the end of a programme of works which has included the replacement of seats and bins, the resurfacing of the road and pavements, and the installation of new street lamps, all designed to make the street a safer and more welcoming environment.
Also attending today’s tree planting were council officers, community representatives, local traders, the neighbourhood PCSO and Southville ward councillor, Tess Green.
The East Street Traders Association (ESTA) worked with the council and local traders to bring about the changes.
Although the initial programme has now finished, the traders are keen for it to act as a springboard for further improvements over the coming months, including the addition of planters.
Some of the traders are also keen to see later opening hours in order to attract more people into the area during evenings.
The Lord Mayor said: “East Street has been in dire need of updating and refurbishment.
“Planting the trees is a significant milestone in that updating.”
Have you seen the trees yet? What do you think?

At least its a start. The new trees are a great addition to East Street. Hopefully more will come after this and the vandalised trees will be replaced and more planters intorduced. Hopefully this is the first step and not the only step.

ReportNew trees!!! and new planters. Some new trees have been planted the old ones that were vandalised have not been replaced.
The planters will not happen as the council has already told me that they cannot maintain them.
I really think they have missed a trick on the landscaping it is still DULL

ReportThere is nothing more unwelcoming than a shopping area that does not have any flower beds or trees especially on a wet dark day, the place just looks unloved.
