Malago WI will be welcoming Jane Brocket to talk at its meeting on Wednesday, 26 May 2010, and in a change to its usual format, 30 tickets for the talk will be available to non-members.

Jane Brocket’s latest book, The Gentle Art of Quilt-making, was published last month, and – hot on the heels of her recent talk at the V&A (to accompany their successful, major quilting exhibition) – it’s about this subject Jane will talk to Malago WI.

Jane is the creator of the Yarnstorm blog, set up in 2005 "to write about knitting but the subject matter soon expanded to include quilting, baking, gardening, colour, inspiration, books, paintings and films (in fact, all the good things in domestic life)."

Jane's first book, The Gentle Art of Domesticity, was published in 2007, with her second and third books in 2008 and 2009 (Cherry Cake and Ginger Beer is a recipe book inspired by foods from classic children's literature, and Ripping Things to Do features the best games and ideas from children's books).

The talk takes place on Wednesday 26 May, 8pm, at Bedminster Methodist Church, British Road, BS3. To book, email jointhewi@googlemail.com to reserve a seat.  Tickets cost £3.50 in advance or £4 on the door.

Malago WI formed in November 2008 and is part of a WI resurgence across the country, with many thousands of new members adding to what is already the largest women’s organisation in the UK.  Membership of Malago WI is fully subscribed for 2010, with over 70 members.

The Malago WI programme so far has included Indian head massage, tea- and chocolate-tasting, a voice workshop, and talks from film maker Steve Humphries, and Kath Kelly, best-selling author of ‘How I Lived a Year on Just a Pound a Day’.
