Everyday we are faced with decision after decision. Chicken sandwich or tuna? Red jumper or blue? But why is it we seem to take longer to make these decisions than we do on choosing the right bed?

A good night’s sleep is vital in recharging our batteries and keeping us healthy and, as the average person spends about a third of their life lying in bed, it is important to choose the right one.
So to help customers make the right decision, Paul Marshall from furniture specialists Park Furnishers, has come up with the ultimate guide to buying a bed.
According to Paul, the first thing to do is try before you buy. This part requires you to overcome any embarrassment and lie on the potential new bed for five or ten minutes in your usual sleeping position. You might get a few funny looks from other shoppers but you will get a proper idea of how the bed will feel.
He also advises that you check the height of the bed as it’s no good buying one that you’re going to struggle to get in and out of. Also remember that a bed is likely to last you for 10 years so think ahead.
Paul tells us: “A lot of people tend to get hot in bed and this can disturb a good night’s sleep, so I would really recommend choosing a well ventilated mattress and base; some mattress protectors can also help to stabilise fluctuations in body temperature.
“I would also tell people to always replace the base of the bed as well as the mattress as an old base is likely to reduce the useful life of a mattress, and diminish the support and comfort that the mattress offers.
“The most important thing to remember when buying a new bed is that your body will take a while to adjust to sleeping on a new one, so don’t worry if your bed doesn’t immediately meet your expectations!”
Visiting a big store like Park Furnishers, in Willway Street, Bedminster, Bristol, gives customers a choice of a wide variety of bed ranges from Dreamworks to the ultra stylish Jensen beds. They also offer a huge supply of bed accessories, headboards and bedsteads over a range of prices.
Paul continued: “I believe the seven-year itch theory applies to mattresses as well as marriages! If your mattress is over seven-years old think about whether it is still as comfy as when you first bought it. The way I look at it is that every £100 you spend on a new bed costs only 2.7p per night over 10 years so it’s an investment worth making.
“If you follow these simple tips you will be sleeping like a baby before you know it!”
