Snow Brings More Disruption In Bedminster Area

Bedminster has been covered by a fresh blanket of snow, bringing more disruptions to services and roads.

Traffic on main routes through Bedminster is slow in places, particularly for vehicles trying to join the A37 Wells Road from St John’s Lane, where the traffic lights have failed. Traffic lights further down at Temple Meads have also failed, adding to the problem.

With some parts of Bedminster not having had rubbish and recycling collections for at least a couple of weeks now, it comes as no surprise that all waste collection services have been affected again today. The advice from Bristol City Council is to leave your rubbish and recycling out for collection and services will be resumed again as soon as possible, perhaps later today if the weather permits. Try not to obstruct the pavements if possible.

Some local schools have had to close again today, with others managing to open for exam candidates only.

Most of the bus services through Bedminster are running normally, although there are expected to be a few changes on some routes to avoid minor roads. You can call First's customer services on 0845 602 0156 for travel information or visit its website:  www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/southwest/bristol/service_disruptions

The weather conditions are expected to improve this afternoon, and temperatures are forecast to rise again by the weekend, so hopefully a thaw shouldn’t be too far away!

I was just loking at the Gallery photos of the animals at the farm, they are great. I wonder how all the animals have coped  by the end of
this really cold spell.  Hopefully they have survived well enough.

I've got to the stage that I do not know when to put the bin out.  My bin has been in and out like a yoyo.  The only good thing is with this cold weather we do not have rotten smelling food in the bin.

Teh cou ncil needs to do something about this situation with the pavements, lots of people have slipped on them and some have been badly hurt. One of my friends broke her ankle. Asking the Sita people to help clear pavements when they can't collect rubbish would be a good idea.

Agreed, why are there so few grit bins? The pavements here have been so dangerous, there must be elderly/disabled people who haven't been able to get out for days. I'm beginning to wonder what I bother paying council taxes for, the only services I've required this last month is my bins to be collected and the side streets and pavements to be gritted so they're safe to use, neither of which has happened. Not impressed. All those binmen that can't get their trucks out, can't they be redeployed to help clear the streets?
