Sainsbury’s

T HE bulk of my weekly shopping is usually obtained from a store in Bedminster. Recently, acting on a neighbour’s recommendation, I drove to Sainsbury’s at Ashton.
I was very impressed with the entire layout, it’s large, plenty of space between the aisles, spotless clean, with a vast range of food and other merchandise. A good car park plus petrol station.
Why, I ask, would Sainsbury’s want to uproot from here to Bristol City Football Ground which involves millions in building a new store?
To recover the cost there is of course the sale of their existing store and its land but the sum is small in comparison to the outlay required.
Sainsbury’s would need to attract a vast number of extra shoppers to pay for this capital outlay.
Maybe the company are hoping the proposal to build thousands of homes on the green belt at Long Ashton will be given the rubber stamp.
If they have this in mind, then they may be in for a rude awakening, there’s opposition from the public for the scrapping of this scheme.

No the current sainsburys store is OVER capacity especially with new houses being built. people need supermarkets to live (actually better for the environment if people do all their shopping from one place). New houses do not need to be built on greenbelt... the current sainsburys site was to be developed with housing so that would be a whole lot of extra custom with out building on the greenbelt.
oh and when ALDI is turned into a posh hotel by George Fergusson you will be crying out for a better designed/convenient Supermarket.
People need to realise that South Bristol is a City and citys need to develop Bedminster is not fine how it is its a dump. and a hot bed of unemployment. How people could pass up the option of 400 extra bedminster Citizens getting jobs due to one independant newsagents going out of business and a stadium being built on an old bit of scrub land beggars belief.
oh and the tescos has already been built on north street or havn't you noticed?

ReportYes Ivor, but its all about who you know, its all politics - houses will ultimately come there, despite what people think and hope. Where do you think the rejected tesco will be built? None other than amongst all those new houses, in what they call a new tesco villiage. maybe not in the next couple of years, the new stadium is just the catalyst. its ok to mention that the big store in bedminster is asda, no shame in mentioning where you shop. Lots of clifton people shop in aldi as well.
