Residents of South Street and British Road in Bedminster have a final opportunity this weekend to give their feedback on Bristol City Council’s plans for new road safety measures in the area.

The proposed measures are part of the Safer Routes to School scheme. It hopes to make motorists more aware of the presence of South Street Primary and to help bring down traffic speeds outside the school.

It is also hoped that by making the route to the South Street school safer, more families and children will be encouraged to walk or cycle to the school.

The council is proposing to upgrade the existing island outside the entrance to the school as well as installing another island outside the proposed new entrance. It is hoped that this will make it both easier for families and children to cross the road and force motorists to slow down. A further traffic island would be located on the opposite approach to the bend.

The consultation ends on Monday, 1 March 2010. You can contact Road Safety Officer Jonathon Mason on 0117 9224338 or by emailing Jonathon.mason@bristol.gov.uk with your comments on the proposals.
