People in Bedminster can let their creative juices flow thanks to the launch of a new mobile pottery painting business.

Launched by Karen Phillips, anyone wanting to create a special gift for a friend or loved one can do so thanks to this unique mobile painting venture and is the perfect opportunity to give something different this Valentines Day.

The way it works is that Karen will turn up at a pre arranged time with all the equipment including paints, brushes and bisques such as mugs, plates and egg cups. She will then set up the kit and help people’s creative juices flow assisting with painting techniques and ideas.

There are also a number of more unusual items such as wiggly worms, mini dragons and chicks popping out of eggs.

She will then take the painted items away, glaze and fire them in her home kiln and return the items within five days.

Having worked as a professional ceramic painter for numerous years Karen was always keen to set up her own business and having been made redundant twice during the recession decided to go it alone.

Karen said: “Painting your own mug or plate is really good fun and makes a fantastic gift for someone. With Valentines Day close by anyone not sure what to get their partner will find this the ideal gift. It’s also a great idea for a birthday present or for an anniversary.

“Because its hand made makes it more personal and the person receiving the item will absolutely love it.”

Having attended a number of Christmas Fairs throughout the area Karen is now looking to expand out to other groups.

She added: “Ceramic painting is a great way to get a group of people together so anyone stuck for an idea for a birthday party, hen night or just wanting to have a fun time with friends will find this the perfect solution.

“Having been made redundant a number of times gave me the impetus to set up this new business. I really enjoy seeing people’s faces when I return the glazed piece and how surprised they are at the quality of the finish and of course their own painting.”
