A POETIC butcher gave Bedminster shoppers a taste of an upcoming street theatre show yesterday.
Actor Chris Yapp donned his butcher’s costume to become the poet butcher Aldred Daw Collard – a character in
Outside Michael’s Antiques, in North Street, he treated passers-by to a taste of his forthcoming performance as part of the Show of Strength Theatre Company production.
The outdoor show, which takes place whatever the weather, made its debut last year and is now becoming a regular Sunday event from September 19 to October 24.
A spokeswoman for the show said: “The performance is a theatrical walk with most the extraordinary people – and animals – you’ll ever meet. And every word is true. “The audience can hear the story of Princess Caraboo, buried in Bedminster, and Charlie Stephens, the local barber who went over Niagara Falls in a barrel. They can learn about gold from Britain’s biggest robbery that was smelted down on North Street and see the tiny dog who collected money for soldiers in the trenches.”
To attend a performance meet at Aldi car park, North Street (next to Tobacco Factory). There is no need to book and tickets cost £5. The mile-long walk/performance lasts about 90 minutes.
