Local Residents Set Priorities For Police

Local residents attended a PACT (Partners and Communities Together) meeting at Broad Plain Rugby Club last week to have their say on issues affecting their local neighbourhoods. The Neighbourhood Policing Team and local councillors were on hand to hear what problems needed to be addressed.

Police patrols to be increased
Residents raised their concerns and then held a vote to agree these three top priorities for the police and other agencies to tackle:
1. Anti-social behaviour, criminal damage, theft and fly-tipping at Kingswear Road and Torpoint Road. The police will step up their patrols of the area and the council will progress its plans for demolition of parts of the area, which has become very run down now most of the flats are empty. The council will also carry out a crime reduction survey of the area.
2. Drug dealing and drug use outside the telephone box at the junction of Fraser Street with Windmill Hill, which occurs predominantly between 3pm and 7pm on weekdays. The provisional action plan includes extra police patrols and considering the installation of CCTV. Officers will also approach BT to see if it is possible to remove the telephone box.
3. The final priority agreed at the meeting was contravention of the ‘Residents-Only’ access to Windmill Hill via Paultrow Road. The Neighbourhood Policing Team will consider issuing warning letters to non-residents who breach the signs.
