Police arrested two people from Bedminster in separate drugs incidents last week.

On Friday, 22 January 2010, police stopped and searched a 38 year old man in Sylvia Avenue, which runs along the top of Perrett’s Park. The man was arrested after being found to be in possession of five bags of cannabis.

Following his arrest, the police carried out a search of his home address in the St John’s Lane area of Bedminster, where they found a number of mature cannabis plants, as well as some smaller cannabis plants and various items of drug paraphernalia.

The man is now being investigated by police for cultivation of the drug and the supply of a controlled substance.

In a separate incident on Monday, 18 January 2010, police noticed a strong smell of cannabis in a vehicle they had stopped in Old Market.  A search of the vehicle revealed a quantity of cannabis leaves and the driver – a 34 year old man – was arrested and detained at Trinity Road station. When the police searched the man’s home address in Windmill Hill, they found a further 24 cannabis plants growing there.

The man has since been cautioned for both possession and cultivation of the drug.
