Bar staff in a Bristol pub continued serving drinks while a customer lay unconscious on the floor after being attacked.
Councillors were yesterday shown CCTV footage of the incident last month at Bar Salt in North Street, Bedminster, as they met to decide its future.
The footage showed a man falling to the ground and lying on the floor near the bar for several minutes without being attended to. He was later taken to hospital with a fractured skull and there were fears for his life at the time. He has since been discharged from hospital but is still receiving treatment.
Several people have been arrested and bailed in connection with the incident, pending further police inquiries.
Police crime reduction officer Alison Wakely said there had been no attempt to clear the premises after the attack. While the man lay on the floor, two other scuffles broke out in other parts of the pub, councillors at a hearing of a licensing committee were told.
They were being asked to review the licence since the pub was closed after the incident on January 24. It can now reopen but with restrictions on opening hours. The licence is held by Mitchells and Butlers, which franchised the pub to Zela Ltd, a company run by Ian Dalton, who appointed his son, Philip, as the designated premises supervisor (DPS) but he is currently not at the pub.
Councillors heard proceedings were pending over alleged breaches of the terms of the tenancy. The police said they wanted a new DPS, shorter opening hours and other conditions.
Councillors agreed to remove Philip Dalton as DPS, change the hours and impose conditions as part of the licence. The pub will not reopen until a new DPS has been appointed.
