A family outdoor fun day will be held in St  John’s Churchyard tomorrow.

The ‘Generations in the Park’ event will take place from 12pm to 4pm and there will be activities to amuse all ages, from face painting to cooking demonstrations and free food tasters.  If you fancy some healthy exercise, you will be able to try a Tai Chi class, and there is story-telling with Michael Loader and music from RhymeTime to entertain you.

St John’s Church was demolished after the Second World War, and its churchyard is now a park.  This historic site is thought to be older than Bristol with settlements dating back to Saxon times and it is believed that the church of St John’s in Bedminster predated any in the city of Bristol itself.

St John’s Community Association is running the event and would like to hear your stories and memories of the park and the church.  If you have any old photos, stories or memorabilia, please take them (or a photocopy) along for the string timeline that will be made on the day.

The Association is improving St John’s Churchyard for the future and has been successful in raising over £18,000 for park improvements.

If you would like to go along and support the Generations in the Park event, St John’s Churchyard is just a stone’s throw from East Street and can be reached by Church Road or Church Lane.  For further details, please contact Jim O’Shaughnessy on 0117 966 4318 or jim.os@blueyonder.co.uk
