Malago Women’s Institute has opened its 2011 membership.

Now in its third year, the popular Malago W.I. is offering new members the chance to join for just £30. It is open to all women from South Bristol.

Malago W.I. meets monthly, usually at 8pm on the last Wednesday of each month, in the Bedminster Methodist Church on British Road.

It prides itself on offering members traditional skills with a modern attitude.

Over the last year, members have learnt or honed skills ranging from the traditional – such as flower arranging, quilting, knitting and crocheting – to the modern: learning Indian head massage, making Morphs with Aardman Animations and doing Pilates.

Along the way, there have been opportunities to swish, and taste tea (as you would wine!) and chocolate.

And, of course, the women of the Malago W.I. have become an integral part of the local community, providing the best of home-baked cakes and plenty of tea to support events such as the Best of Bedminster show and fundraisers for local community projects.

It is a campaigning W.I. as well, getting involved with and speaking out on local issues, such as the bids by Tesco and Sainsbury’s to build superstores at the Ashton Gate site.

If you would like to join the Malago W.I. in 2011, email wearemalagowi@gmail.com, or for further information visit www.malagowi.co.uk
