The South Bristol Riverscapes annual Malago Trek takes place this weekend, on Sunday, June 20.

The walk starts at 10.30am in Asda’s car park, which the Malago river flows beneath, and will follow the river upstream to the Malago Spring, its source in the northern slopes of the Dundry Hills.

The Malago is mostly hidden away beneath Bedminster’s pavements but in places, the Malago Greenway offers a surprising variety of wildlife and plenty of tranquil greenery.

The Malago Trek will follow the river through Bedminster, Windmill Hill, Bishopsworth and Hartcliffe.

Enamel artworks created by local children from Parson Street Primary School and St Mary Redcliffe Primary School can be seen on bridges along the route. There will be short talks of interest from local experts and enthusiasts along the way.

The walk will take about four hours at a gentle stroll, stopping for a picnic in the wildflower meadow in Manor Woods Valley.

You are welcome to join South Bristol Riverscape for all or part of the walk; there is no need to book, just pack your own picnic and take along something to drink.

Apart from the last stretch up the Dundry slopes, the route is paved and not steep.

For further information, visit the South Bristol Riverscapes website or telephone Nancy Carlton on 0117 953 2455.
