Police are enforcing a new traffic order that has come into effect on East Street in Bedminster.

The new order supports a pedestrian zone between the hours of 7am and 7pm, and affects the whole length of East Street.

The order allows access to the street only to buses and delivery vehicles during those hours.

Full access to all other vehicles is allowed at other times, permitting vehicular access and parking at all safe locations along the length of East Street outside the restricted times.

The order also brings into effect the closure of Mill Lane and the reversal of the one-way in Dean Street.

Resurfacing works and new carriageway markings were carried out last night.

Some local traders have told Bedminster People that they welcome the new pedestrian zone, believing that it will benefit shoppers and traders alike.

They also hope that permitting cars to drive down and park on East Street after 7pm will lead to an increase in the number of people visiting the street in the evenings.

What do you think? Are you pleased that East Street will become a pedestrian zone during the day?

I really like the idea of the pedestrian area for shopping, somehow it feels more of a community out shopping. Otherwise people are pushing past on the pavement and it never seems a very relaxed situation, you can stop and look without worrying if you are in the way of others.
