Would You Like To See A Community Allotment In Bedminster?

A meeting has been called for Wednesday, 4 August to discuss a project to start a community allotment in Bedminster.
If you’ve made enquiries about an allotment recently, you’ll know that there is a long waiting list – currently, it stands at over three years.
But an opportunity has arisen for a community allotment – if enough people can be found to take part in the project.
Michael Shaw, Associate Missional Pastor in training at the East Street Baptist Church, is calling for anyone interested in the project to come along to the meeting, which will take place in the Albert Inn at 7.30pm.
Michael said: “I have been told about a small patch of land that has been left to go to ruin in Bedminster.
“It is the centre of some local anti-social behaviour, but has been earmarked as a space for people to grow their own food.
“I have spoken with the Empty Land Officer at the council, and it would be available for a peppercorn rent on short term lease basis.
“What we would need to do would be to clear the site, and then make it available for local people to have space to grow their own food.”
The project needs at least 25 people to get it going and Michael is holding the meeting to see if there is enough energy to get the project up and running.
If you think you might be able to help in any way, please go along!

Thanks for the offer of help, Ian, that's great. Hopefully, you'll be able to pop along to the meeting next week but if not, details and requests for help will be posted on here.

ReportHi, what an excellent idea. I stood in the last local elections in Bedminster and if there is anything I can do to help, please let me know. Ian Cooper
