Work is underway to renovate the multi-games area of Victoria Park, Bedminster, thanks to the efforts of the Victoria Park Action Group, who successfully bid for £50,000 from the Big Lottery Fund.

Volunteers from the Victoria Park Action Group worked hard to secure the funds to carry out these much-needed improvements and Bristol City Council has agreed to allocate a further £38,000 from Section 106 funding.

The steel fencing of the games area is being replaced with the higher and better quality fencing shown in the picture above.

New basketball hoops and football goals will be installed at both ends of the hard court and the playing surface will be repaired, painted and marked out.

The work on the hard court should be finished by the end of this month.

Once it is completed, the tarmac area to the west of the hard court will be removed, as will the children’s play equipment, which doesn’t meet current safety standards.

When all those works have been completed, the area will be landscaped and grassed. Timber seating will be put in place on a mound overlooking the hard court for spectators.

Victoria Park Action Group said: “We hope people will appreciate all the time and hard work that has gone into improving this area and will treat it with care and respect.”

I think the park is a really nice place, I enjoy walking the dog there. Let's hope when all this work is done people respect the area and enjoy. I agree the big concern is antisocial behaviour but let's hope for best!

Vicky park has improved so much over the past few years. VPAG have done a great job and its not easy as there's still a problem with antisocial behaviour at times. Hoping they will treat the new area with respect!
