England loses 2018 World Cup bid – what now for the new stadium bid?

So the World Cup will not be coming to England in 2018.

Bristol City hopes to build a new stadium at Ashton Vale
Sepp Blatter, president of world football’s governing body FIFA, announced this afternoon that Russia’s rival bid had succeeded.
The news throws into fresh doubt what will become of Bristol City’s bid to build a new stadium on the greenbelt at Ashton Vale.
Residents of Ashton Vale had made a successful bid of their own to have the 42-acre site recommended for designation as a town green, but it remains to be seen whether Bristol City Council will approve the finding of the independent inspector.
It is open to the council to turn down the inspector’s recommendation, although that could lead to court proceedings. In making its decision, the council is not allowed to take into account the desirability of using the land for other purposes.
If the site were to be designated a town green, it would be protected from any future development.
The council’s deputy leader Simon Cook had confirmed the council’s support for a new 30,000-seater stadium at Ashton Vale.
Local business leaders, MPs and, of course, thousands of football fans also threw their weight behind the new stadium project.
As a host city, supporters said, Bristol would have been in line to benefit from a £150 million windfall.
But with the hopes of being a host city now dashed, that particular argument no longer applies.
Although Bristol City wasn’t pinning its hopes solely on the World Cup bid; it also said that a new stadium was needed in order to bring premiership football to the city and to aid the regeneration of South Bristol.
What do you think?
Should the new stadium be built at Ashton Vale even though England didn’t succeed in its World Cup bid?
Or should the site become a town green for the benefit of future generations?

I agree with lanceloto, the majority of the residents of Bristol want the new Stadium, Bristol needs the new Stadium and sporting facilities to look after the welfare of the city and bring it into the 21st century. The Bristol city Council petition page showed yesterday that the petition in favour of the Stadium had 24000 signatures while the petition for the village green merely 1037 and most of those were not from inside Bristol. That is a ratio of 24:1 a massive vote definitely but lets show the Council just how much support can be achieved by logging into the petition site and adding our signature. Here is the link to the petition http://tinyurl.com/372e3yw and I shared this on facebook with my friends and their friends. You can do the same and see if we cant achieve 240:1. It will be a travesty if the vilage green is allowed on the whim of so few people, what happened to democracy!

ReportI agree with Lanceloto, The Stadium is for the City of Bristol and has been a long time in the making. The petitions on BCC website yesterday show that 24000 people want the stadium against 1037 that want the village green. Please everyone who reads this go and add your names to the petition lets increase the ratio from 24:1 for the Stadium to 240:1, and convince the council that the people of Bristol are behind the Stadium and just a handful of NIMBYS want the village green. Actually hardly any of the 1037 signatures are from the Ashton Vale are, which proves that it is not local people who are behind this ridiculous idea. I have lived in Bedmister for nearly 30 years years and even though i am not a football fan I can appreciate how important football and sport in general is to the welfare of the CIty. Here is a link to the petition site http://tinyurl.com/36tbmqz
Please tell your friends - I shared it on Facebook - you could do the same and spread the message!

ReportThe World cup is nothing to do with Bristol City, and thats who this stadium is for... Bristol.
Bristol like England will miss out on the world Cup but in reality all the stadium will miss out on is a couple thousand more seats. Bristol City need a new stadium, Bristol Needs Modern Sporting facilities, and Bristol needs to claw in the £6million a year it misses out on from conferencing.
The "town" / "Village" "green" have not been successful in their "bid" yet, they have convinced one lady. Pretty much everyone else in the city is thoroughly unconvinced of their claims.
There will be court proceedings no matter which decision the council make. However its our council tax the Village green claimants have been spending to steal someone elses land.
