Bristol-based heart specialists will be offering expert help and advice this month as part of an on-going drive to keep the region’s hearts healthy.
Taking place at Spire Bristol Hospital, the information evening on 5th February will provide people with all the information they need about heart health and cardiac problems.
Consultant cardiologist Julian Strange will be on hand to answer questions whist Chris Gregory, Spire’s cardiac physiologist, will be performing free blood pressure checks. Claire Parker, cardiac nurse at Spire, will also be providing pulse checks on attendees to detect irregular heartbeats.
Julian said: “Prevention is always better than a cure so it’s important that people understand how to minimise the risk of heart disease.
“Simple lifestyle changes such as taking regular exercise to raise your heart rate and eating a healthy, balanced diet make a huge difference. Smoking and excessive drinking significantly increases the chance of developing heart disease so people should limit or eliminate these risk factors.
“Other key risk factors include high blood pressure and excessive levels of stress.
“However, there’s always help available so we’re encouraging people to come along to the free event and discuss any concerns they may have.”
Spire Bristol Hospital is a centre for cardiac excellence and opened a new cardiac catheter lab in October 2012. The hospital offers a full range of complex heart services and check-ups ranging from MRI scanning and diagnostics to heart rhythm correction, pacemaker implantation, cardioversion and EECP therapy.
The British Heart Foundation has long been campaigning for better heart health and February is recognised as a key awareness in the calendar. Book your free place at the cardiac information event now by calling 0117 980 4080 or email info@spirebristol.com.
