I have spotted that someone has started a Graffiti gallery for Bedminster on Zubworld. What do you think about this? tinyurl.com/yz2p7xg

I can appreciate graffiti and the talent that it needs to be able to do it well, but what I don't like is the notion that it is 'cool' and trendy. I think that the bakery things opposite Ashton Gate school and the graff on the Try Again looks horrible and makes the area look run-down.
Unfortunately there is a notion that it is 'cool' and/or 'trendy' to spray paint murals everywhere. Just because it's 'street' doesn't mean it doesn't look unsightly. These graffiti murals should be banned everywhere apart from community centres, or places where young children can express themselves artistically by doing a bit of spray painting.
Adults doing it and making websites boasting about it need to take a good look at themselves.
I quite like the stuff in Dame Emily Park. I've put up some photos in the gallery. What I don't like seeing is the tagging on doors and shutters on shops and scrawled on walls, it just looks ugly and makes the area look really run-down.

ReportI'm sure that most people will have read my comments on tagging and graffiti elsewhere on this site. Whilst it is obvious that some of the street 'art' around Bedminster does show that the creators do have some talent my feeling is that it can create a problem. The problem is that individuals who possess far less talent get hold of a can of paint and start thinking that by daubing shop fronts and houses they can become 'cool'. Furthermore, where there is street 'art' there appears to be an increase in tagging. The mural on the side of the Tap and Barrel pub has already been tagged and Dame Emily park is starting to look like parts of New York at its worst.

ReportI really like the pictures posted in the Galllery obviously done by someone very talented. I also agree it can be a little scary when they appear in your area because you don't know where it will all end.
