The official deadline for commenting on Tesco's Ashton Gate application is today - don't forget to have your say: tinyurl.com/nsn4l8
How many stores do Tesco want? Any spare piece of land and before we know it they have bought it. Even if they are not given planning permission it stops any other competition moving in. There was a television progamme some time ago showing how they operate.

ReportTesco already have a store in West Street, Bedminster. Anyone living near Ashton Gate have a substancial Sainsburys supermarket, as well as Aldi on North Street. Then at the other end there is Lidl in Sheen Road, and of course Asda at the end of East street shopping centre. I just can't see that another Tesco is required. I think there's plenty of choice which is evenly spaced.

ReportI don't think that another Tesco is required either, there's no need for it with all the other supermarkets we have in Bedminster. But I don't think that Bristol City (and perhaps the council) are thinking about what we need, only about what the club needs to fund another stadium and the World Cup bid. They don't care what Bedminster needs or doesn't need. One of my work mates said I was just being a nimby about it all, but it's not that, I just worry that it will have a negative impact for years, long after all the World Cup hype has died out.
what are the chances that a) England will win the World Cup bid and b) they'd select Bristol as a venue! lol
