http://tinyurl.com/3tjqkjm Anyone interested in Bristol Riots of 1831. Should perhaps take a look at this link on Wikipedia. Showing Bristol people being savaged by 3rd Dragoon Guards in Queen Square. Is it any wonder that there were riots? when of a population of 104 thousand only 6 thousand had the right to vote and we all know who these people would have been!

I didn't realise the riots were about voting. From what little I remember of my history classes the voting system was very corrupt at that time, people must of felt very powerless and that rioting was the only option open to them. Lots of rioters in Queen Sq were apparently killed by the melting lead that fell from the burning roofs.

Thanks for comments Mrs-W2009. Some fellow Bristol Folks were also killed by the sabers of the 3rd Dragoon Guards, I can only imagine the absolute terror of being an unarmed civilian caught up in such a charge of horsemen, the good old days..! Lots of those soldiers involved may even have had a sympathy with their fellow creatures but had to obey orders.
