Why cut this route?

W HILE using my bus pass on the airport bus from Bridgwater Road to Temple Meads I was advised that this would not be available to me from September, there being no bus service whatsoever after 2.45pm into the City because of the drastic reduction of the 52 service, which finishes at this time. How is it that we are left to our own devices to get into the city?

Short of driving part way into, say Asda, Bedminster, and then taking another bus from there, what is the alternative?

We could of course take the airport bus to the airport and then come back.

Fine if you aren't in a hurry, but this not always a choice you want to take. Why is it that when my wife and I returned from Heathrow recently, we, along with four airport workers, were the only people on the bus. At least the operators got some revenue for the journey.

Am I simple minded to suggest that the housing estates of Hartcliffe and Withywood have an abundance of services and yet probably provide very little in council taxes, compared to those who expect nothing from the system, and that is precisely what we get. This cancellation of a small and not often used service is a totally unjustified. Perhaps I should claim every benefit available and then get the same consideration as those who don't contribute.

    lol, I know.....what was I thinking??! I should step back in line! I don't understand this council's agenda, it doesn't make sense....unless the aim really is just to waste money in which case they're doing a grand job.

    It seems that when it comes to transport, we are doomed to one useless council after another, of all politcial colours none of them can get a grip on it and sort it out.

    They wasted 10s of years and 10s of millions. We still have a second rate system that provides a laughable "service" at enormous cost. And they're so thick, they think this will encourage us to get out of our cars!

    Good grief Mrs_W, how dare you suggest that they forget the bendy bus and concentrate on providing better normal bus services. Doing that would mean a wasted opportunity to p*ss away tax payers money on a pointless and flawed scheme that is, quite simply a massive white elephant.

    Worst bus are a greedy disgrace. And the council shouldn't be letting people down like this either, the council is supposed to be here to subsidise things like bus routes which are essential to elderly people or people too poor to run cars if there aren't enough of them to pay for the service. We can't reduce everything to market forces or the poor and the elderly will lose out disproportionately.

    How about forgetting the bendy bus and using the money to provide better normal bus services?

    If the 52 going to be that reduced they may as well renumber it like the 503 etc.

    Also seems Abus along with the council is not that pleased with footfall.

    Isn't Bridgewater Road covered by the 121 also.

    Wessex Connect runs this bus around hourly.

    However North Somerset is having it own review but despite promises prior that the 121 will be safe for about 5 years. North Somerset Council having a whole subsidised review the future of every North Somerset route uncertain,

    Even First is struggling First Devon and Cornwall is considering leaving Cornwall because of the 40% cuts Cornwall Council proposing (First allegedly can not cope)
