Windmill Hill ward in Bedminster likely to be closely fought in local elections

In the local elections to be held on Thursday 5 May, the Windmill Hill ward in Bedminster is likely to be closely fought – but perhaps not on local issues.

There have been some polling station changes in the Windmill Hill ward in Bedminster
Mark Bailey has held the Windmill Hill ward securely for the Lib Dems for eight years now.
The Labour candidate for the ward, Narraser Gordon, is hopeful this will change due to the current unpopularity of the Lib Dems nationally, stating in leaflets delivered around the ward that there “will never be a better opportunity for you to let Nick Clegg and Davind Cameron know what you think of their government”.
Mark Bailey, who lives locally, has been a very active and seemingly popular councillor for the ward but we shall have to see whether local residents will vote on local or national issues.
You should be getting your ballot paper shortly if it hasn’t arrived already.
And if you live in the Windmill Hill ward, don’t forget that the ward district boundaries have had to be changed.
This is to avoid a repeat of last year’s scenes where people were queuing out of the doors in some polling stations and were unable to vote in time before the polls closed.
Following that, the Electoral Commission has issued guidelines that no polling station should have more than 2,500 electors.
All of the roads listed below will move from polling district B to E in the Windmill Hill ward – if you are a resident in one of these roads your new polling station will be the Jubilee Hall, Wedmore Vale:
• Atlas Road
• Blagdon Close
• Caen Road
• Dunford Road
• Kensal Avenue
• Kensal Road
• Littleton Road
• Marksbury Road
• Mascot Road
• Paultow Avenue
• Paultow Road
• Raymend Road
• St John's Lane (part)
• Sidmouth Gardens
• Sidmouth Road
• Wedmore Vale
• Weymouth Road
Mark Bailey has said that if you have any queries about these changes, you should get in touch with him on 0117 377 3524 or by email at mark.bailey@bristol.gov.uk

Its a waste of your vote voting on national issues at local level, what matters is what they do locally. The time to send a message to Clegg and co is at the next general election.
