A HEAD teacher from Bedminster Down is taking on the Virgin London Marathon in memory of his older brother who died of cancer last year.

Mac Jeffery, was also a headteacher at Mangotsfield Primary School and St Joseph's in Fishponds, died in August after an 11-year battle with cancer. Now Paul Jeffery, 50, head at Cheddar Grove Primary School will run the race on Sunday to raise money for and thank Pill-based charity Penny Brohn Cancer Care for all the support they gave his brother.

Paul, running with friend Paul Wood, said: "At the time he died I had already decided to run the London Marathon for Penny Brohn Cancer Care because I knew it meant so much to Mac. I had always thought Mac would be there to cheer me on towards the finish line."
