It was a Valentine's Day with a difference in Bedminster this February 14th, as the Love Bemmy week continued to encourage local people to take pride in the area.

The 'Love Bemmy, I do' campaign is inviting people to say what they love about Bedminster and what they would like to be improved
The week-long event involves Bristol City Council staff, the police and local organisations such as the Greater Bedminster Community Partnership, and aims to help make Bedminster a better place to live, work and visit following concerns raised by residents at Neighbourhood Forums.
The campaign took to Bedminster Parade this afternoon to chat with local residents, find out what people love about Bedminster and gather ideas for improvements.
Residents have started signing up to become street representatives, who will report fly tipping, graffiti, abandoned cars, criminal damage, litter or any other problems they notice on Bedminster's streets so that they can be addressed.
Police teams have been out and about along York Road talking to residents about a Neighbourhood Watch scheme.
And discussions with over 40 local businesses in the Whitehouse Lane trading area have led to hopes that a business-watch scheme or association could be created there.
Emily Smith, the Safer Bristol Community Safety Officer who has co-ordinated the week, told Bedminster People: "I am really positive about this and know some of the measures we are putting in place will be long lasting, especially the community involvement."

This is such a good idea. Emily Smith is right in that measures will be long lasting and are community based. All of us are really encouraged when we see people taking interest and we have a point of contact for our concerns, we can then take all pride of the area we live in. There have been many on this sight calling for Bristol Council to do something about our High Streets. I remember when I was a little girl Bedminster was the place to go for ALL your shopping, there used to be a real buzz around the place.
