If you fancy updating your Christmas decorations this year, Fig1 is selling handmade baubles and unique fairy lights, and All Things Nice on North Street, Bedminster, has a wide selection of Christmas decorations.

Making your own Christmas decorations can provide hours of fun, especially if you have young children to entertain.

Simple strings of paper snowflakes make very pretty decorations, as do felt hearts stitched in the Scandinavian style that is so popular at the moment.  You could try Paper Village for your craft supplies and Calico for material offcuts.

And don't forget the Christmas greenery. You could try Bedminster Flowers, the East Street Fruit Market and Bretts on St John's Lane for Christmas trees and shrubs, poinsettias and wreaths, or the Riverside Garden Centre.

And of course you can make your own Christmas wreaths quite easily.

Old Christmas baubles and tree decorations can be glued or wired together to form a lasting wreath to add to your Christmas decorations.

Or for a natural look – and a fragrant aroma – glue together a circle of pine cones and decorate it with slices of dried orange and bundles of cinnamon sticks.

And don't forget to have a look in the garden for evergreens you could take cuttings from, or use some trimmings from your Christmas tree to make arrangements of greenery for the house or a wreath for the front door.

You can buy bases for wreaths at the Tobacco Factory Christmas market, or ask at a local florist. Alternatively, you can use an old wire coat hanger to form a circle which you stuff or pad with moistened moss or grasses secured with garden wire.  Cover the base by securing pieces of Christmas tree trimmings or your garden greenery to it using more wire – even hair pins will work nicely – and then push in some berries or fruits for some extra colour.  If you need any DIY supplies to make your Christmas wreath, pop into the Lion Stores on North Street.
