Council appoints 'snow wardens' for parts of Bedminster

We're experiencing mild weather in Bedminster this November but Bristol City Council is taking no chances: having been caught out by freezing winter weather in the last couple of years, the council has now published its snow plans, which include appointing 'snow wardens' for parts of BS3.

It's difficult to believe that this time last year we were on the brink of a 'deep freeze' that would last for weeks – have a look at some Bedminster snow scenes here! 

Forecasters are predicting nothing of the sort for the foreseeable future, but after "barbeque summers" that never arrived, and a "mild winter" that proved to be anything but, you never know.

In recent weeks, the council has posted notices asking for volunteer 'snow wardens' at sites where steep hills and tricky corners cause considerable problems when it snows. 

The snow wardens will ensure icy areas at those sites are cleared and salted, and arrange for basic checks on elderly or vulnerable neighbours. They have been provided with snow shovels and high visibility jackets by the council.

The sites include Novers Hill in Bedminster and the steeper streets of the Windmill Hill ward.

In previous years, there have been complaints that parts of Bedminster around North Street have had insufficient numbers of grit bins for the conditions. 

The council is planning an additional 100 sites for grit bins across the city, but is yet to confirm where those would be placed.

However, some of the residential streets in Bedminster and Southville are on the council's priority gritting routes this year.
