The clock is ticking – parents have until Monday 31 October 2011 to apply to a secondary school – and the city council's online application system is now available.
The open evening starts at 6pm and the head teacher, Gary Schlick, will welcome parents at 6.30pm.
Bedminster Down School celebrated record GCSE results recently, with 80% of its students achieving five GCSEs at grades A* - C; 46% including maths and English.
Speaking on results day, Mr Schlick, who joined the school a year ago, said he was proud of the further steps that had been made in improving chances for students at the school and spoke highly of its sense of community.
Bedminster Down School teaches 11 to 16-year-olds. As well as GCSES, students at the school have the opportunity to take vocational courses including Young Apprentices and B-Tec courses, which are equivalent to four GCSEs.
The school has received approval from the Department for Education to become an Academy and is on track to convert to Academy status in November.
