If you haven't heard about the BS3 Campus project for the old Marksbury Road College in Bedminster, it's worth taking a look at what they're suggesting.

They have a point when they say that the council is encouraging the usual massive housebuilders to bid for the right to develop the site and holds the Harbourside up as an example of how wrong that can go. The Harbourside development was a wasted opportunity, most of the buildings look like low rate hotels and they're only going to look worse as the years pass.

The BS3Campus group is basically saying that community facilities like sports halls and workshops shouldn't be demolished to make way for just a mix of private and social housing. And there's open space there that the community should be able to use as well.  There's 25 acres of land there, we should get more from it than just housing.

The council goes on about sustainability and low carbon stuff, Bristol is supposed to be a green city and the whole localism agenda is supposed to be a priority so it would be good if they had a serious look at a community-based idea instead, with self-build homes and some of the land still available to the community.

If you also think that it would be nice to see something more than just housing have a look at what they're suggesting and sign their petition or email the council to make your views known.
